LG Launches New TVs With Built-In Mosquito-Repelling Technology

Korean tech firm LG has launched a range of new TVs designed to repel mosquitos.
The LED collection features the maker’s ‘Mosquito Away Technology’ which uses ultrasonic sound waves to drive away the mossies.

The company says that this method is safer than using potentially hazardous chemicals and also cheaper, because no liquid repellent is used so there’s no need to shell out on regular refills.

The TV doesn’t even need to be turned on for the mosquito-bothering tech to work, says LG.
Designed for the Indian market, the TV is not available anywhere else just yet.

LG first introduced the insect-repelling tech in 2014 in a range of air conditioning units.

Mosquitos can carry numerous potentially deadly diseases including malaria and Dengue fever, with the latter posing a particular threat in India.

Cases of dengue fever in India almost doubled in 2015 compared to the previous year, with some 19,000 cases reported.

LG admits in its disclaimer that the long-term affects of its tech have not yet been tested and that mosquitos could potentially develop a resistance.

It also advises that the the TVs are just one of many ways to banish mosquitos and that they are not intended to completely replace other devices.
